Single-Pilot Operations Workshop (8am-12pm)
The half-day workshop on SPO will be divided into two 1.5 hour sessions, each devoted to a major area of concern for SPO: a) workload management and monitoring, and b) response to emergency and non-normal situations. Each session will begin with introductory comments from one of the workshop moderators and will be followed by very brief (i.e., 5 minute) presentations from up to 5 discussants representing different operational perspectives (e.g., manufacturer, airline, dispatch) or on a topic of specific relevance to the area (e.g., single-pilot monitoring of flight deck automation). The remaining time in each session will be opened to moderated discussion among the discussants and workshop participants. Issues, possible solutions, research questions, and other pertinent discussion content will be tracked and noted.
Lunch (12pm-1pm)
Function Allocation for Separation Assurance Workshop (1pm-5pm)
The half-day workshop will be divided into two sessions. In the first session participants will discuss current and prior research activities on function allocation. The focus will be on identifying the key research issues that remain partially or completely un-answered regarding the allocation of functions amongst the various agents (human or automated, airborne or ground-based). Of particular interest are the research issues that may be preventing the evolution or modernization of today’s system. In the second session, the NASA organizers will present core elements and research questions from NASA’s own research plan on function allocation to solicit feedback and input.
