Development and History of Head-Mounted Displays and Viewers for Virtual Environments or Augmented Reality
Principal Investigators
Stephen R. Ellis, Ph.D., stephen.r.ellis@nasa.gov

One aspect of the group's unique capability is our use of head-referenced displays to present audio and visual information as part of our development and scientific research. The present group, and its antecedent View Lab, has designed and constructed several head-mounted displays for research purposes. They are marked with black dots in the image below which collects images of a large number of previously developed head-mounted displays and viewers, showing the surprisingly long history that this display format has.

This slide is currently being revised and will be updated. Additional displays will be added and an extended annotation is in preparation
