Welcome to Foundation for a College Education, where ...
|
Since our founding in 1995, Foundation for a College Education (FCE) continues to make significant strides towards helping students of color prepare for college and beyond. By providing families with the tools they need to navigate the college admissions process, we are influencing the entire community of East Palo Alto to believe they can gain access to higher education.
Our efforts have made a difference! Over the past five years, we have enrolled 55 students in college, and in the spring of 2003, we celebrated our first group of college graduates! Here at FCE, we not only help students go to college, but we build the capacity of the family. In doing so, we empower an entire community. We are very excited about the successes we have achieved during our journey.
A Universal Mission
Foundation for a College Education (FCE) was created to promote college access for students who have traditionally been underrepresented in higher education. By providing free comprehensive academic and college guidance services, FCE aims to increase the number of students of color enrolling in and graduating from 4-year colleges and universities. In particular, we target talented African American, Latino, Asian American, and Native American students who are from lower-socioeconomic backgrounds, those who are first in their family to attend college, and those with limited higher education experience.
A Unique Vision
Our vision distinguishes us from other organizations with similar missions.
Believing that high expectations lead to high achievement, we have developed a program that encourages students to move beyond standard grade-level performance and pursue college preparatory and advanced levels in order to ensure that they are prepared to attend our nation's best colleges and universities.
By engaging both students and parents/guardians in our programming, we have created a community of learners who now believe higher education is within reach. And the word is spreading -- information is being passed on to others -- often entire families join us, including elementary school children, along with neighbors, peers, and colleagues. Our community is growing. Armed with the right tools, parents and students play a pivotal role in delivering information to others about how best to use school resources, ensure high level academic planning, and conquer the college admissions and financial aid maze. A Parent Leadership Committee provides input on program development and implementation -- the clients, not the organization, shape the programs to best reflect their needs in their own context. FCE aims to build a community with the capacity to sustain itself over the long-term.
FCE is located in
East Palo Alto at 2160 Euclid Avenue.
