In October 2016, Dr. Erin Flynn-Evans was interviewed for a NASA audio podcast on her expertise in fatigue research. As the Principal Investigator of the Fatigue Countermeasures Laboratory, Dr. Evans has extensive experience with investigating how fatigue can be mitigated for astronauts, pilots and others. During the 24 minute interview, Dr. Flynn-Evans discussed her background at Harvard and how she transitioned to NASA. She then explained her work with Space Shuttle astronauts regarding sleep in space and on Earth. In addition, she described studies with long-haul airline pilots who fly international routes that require the crew to rest in the bunks onboard. She also elaborated on her current research in the Human Systems Integration Division on fatigue risk management as applied to groups such as airline pilots, space station astronauts and potential crews on long-duration missions to Mars.
