NASA Human Systems Integration Division researcher and Princeton alum Dr. Jessica Marquez was interviewed for an "alumni feature" by the Princeton University social media team. In conjunction with Latin Heritage Month, the Instagram story highlights the life and career of Dr. Marquez as she navigated multiple challenges and cultural barriers to become a well-respected NASA scientist, contributing to several critical NASA missions and projects. Outside of school and work, she has also remained active in multiple community service organizations. As a member of the Latin community, Dr. Marquez hopes to inspire current and future generations of Latin scientists and engineers to change the world through careers in STEM. In her own words, "To solve the big problems in the world, it usually involves STEM – and we need creative, different perspectives that only a diverse set of minds can solve".
Today, as a member of NASA's
Human-Computer Interaction Group at
NASA Ames Research Center, Dr. Marquez leads the SPIFe (Scheduling & Planning Interface for Exploration) team, which designs, develops, and deploys scheduling and execution software tools used in space exploration operations. She is also a subject matter expert in space human factors engineering, specifically human-automation-robotic integration. Her team has also contributed to NASA's Moon and Mars missions, helping to enable NASA’s long term goals for human spaceflight and deep space exploration.
