NASA Researcher receives FAA Excellence in Aviation Research Award
(May 24, 2010)
Dr. Irving Statler of NASA's Human Systems Integration Division received an award for his work on the development of the Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing (ASIAS) system that provides decision makers in the aviation industry with comprehensive, accurate, and insightful information on the operational performance of the aviation-transportation system to reliably identify and correct the predisposing conditions that could lead to accidents. The FAA adopted the ASIAS as a central repository for diverse databases collected across the industry. Dr. Statler and his team were able to provide the community an integrated suite of tools to enable a system-wide perspective for proactive management of the safety risk of the national air-transportation system.
