Predicting the Readability of Transparent Text  (2002)
Abstract Header
This paper introduces a conceptually simpler version of our readability contrast metric for evaluating the effects of text color and background color and variability on text readability. In this version of the metric the mean luminance and the masking texture are computed from the combined image, not just the background. This change allows the metric to correctly predict that light text is less readable than dark text when the contrast is equated relative to the background alone.
